We believe in the transformative power of design. For over 70 years, we’ve made furnishings well-loved for the beauty and comfort they bring home. Today, we strive to deliver more, weaving sustainability into our products and our business—because it’s time to reimagine what good design can do.

Making things better

We’re changing how we think about—and make—our products. From the start, we’ve championed timeless design, crafted to last. We’ve since expanded our approach, sourcing lower-impact materials and recycling would-be waste into beautiful, enduring pieces.

Responsibly Sourced Wood

Natural wood is one of our most-loved materials, and responsibly sourcing it is key to preventing deforestation and preserving ecosystems. We prioritize wood that is FSC®-certified, reclaimed, or recycled.

Today, 60% of our wood is responsibly sourced.

Responsibly Sourced Cotton

A comfortable, long-lasting staple, cotton is one of our preferred materials. We source cotton grown in ways that reduce water waste and the use of toxic pesticides, prioritizing cotton certified by Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Organic Cotton Standard, or Better Cotton.

Today, 95% of our cotton is responsibly sourced, and we’re on track to reach 100%.

Supporting communities.

Our business should benefit all the people involved, from designers and weavers to customers at home. That’s why we support organizations that build and strengthen communities across the globe.

Nest Ethical Handcraft

Since 2014, we’ve partnered with Nest to help establish industry standards for ethical handcraft work—a fundamental source of employment for artisans around the world—supporting fair wages and the rights of craft producers.

Our family of brands at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. has dedicated $50M to sourcing Nest Ethically Handcrafted products by 2025.

Fair Trade Certified

We prioritize working with Fair Trade Certified™ factories, which are held to rigorous social, environmental, and economic standards. For every Fair Trade Certified™ product sold, we contribute to a fund managed by the factory workers to address their specific needs, as decided by their collective vote.

Our family of brands at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. has committed to paying an additional $10M in Fair Trade Premiums by 2025.

More of a good thing.
